Stellar Kinematics from Hipparcos Proper Motions
From Hipparcos proper motions, we have analyzed the local kinematics of the Milky Way from the young O-B5 stars, classical Cepheids, and the late-type K-M giants. Comparing the derived results, the kinematical discrepancies between each subset of stars have been analyzed, and the possible reasons for the kinematical di erences have been discussed.
متن کاملStellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups
It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...
متن کاملTowards Proper Motions in the Local Group
Key and still largely missing parameters for measuring the mass content and distribution of the Local Group are the proper motion vectors of its member galaxies. The problem when trying to derive the gravitational potential of the Local Group is that usually only radial velocities are known, and hence statistical approaches have to be used. The expected proper motions for galaxies within the Lo...
متن کاملStellar Dynamics in the Galactic centre: Proper Motions and Anisotropy
ABSTRACT We report a new analysis of the stellar dynamics in the Galactic centre, based on improved sky and line-of-sight velocities for more than one hundred stars in the central few arcseconds from the black hole candidate SgrA*. The main results are: • Overall the stellar motions do not deviate strongly from isotropy. For those 32 stars with a determination of all three velocity components t...
متن کاملAbsolute Proper Motions of Open Clusters . I . Observational data
Mean proper motions and parallaxes of 205 open clusters were determined from their member stars found in the Hipparcos Catalogue. 360 clusters were searched for possible members, excluding nearby clusters with distances D < 200 pc. Members were selected using ground based information (photometry, radial velocity, proper motion, distance from the cluster centre) and information provided by Hippa...
